Your BizTalk Era
Ends in 2030.
Your Strategy
Starts Now.
Guided by a founding member of Microsoft's original BizTalk B2B Team — with 20+ patents and a published book on BizTalk architecture — we have delivered 10+ end-to-end enterprise migrations to Azure Logic Apps and modern integration platforms.
Midnight Strikes
December 31, 2030.
BizTalk Server has been ticking for 30 years. On December 31, 2030, the clock hits midnight — all versions, all support, permanently gone. After that date, there are no patches, no security fixes, no help desk, no lifeline.
The hand moves whether you act or not. Organizations that plan their migration now — while the runway is long — will have orderly, well-tested transitions. Those that wait until the final ticks will face emergency migrations under maximum pressure, cost, and risk.
BizTalk Had a
Magnificent Run.
Before we talk about what comes next, let's take a moment to honor what BizTalk was — and what it meant to the enterprises that relied on it for three decades.
BizTalk didn't just process messages. It was the silent backbone of global commerce — moving purchase orders, healthcare claims, financial transactions, and supply chain data for tens of thousands of organizations, day after day, year after year, without fail. If your business ran on BizTalk, it ran on something genuinely extraordinary.
30 Years of Bulletproof Reliability
From 2000 to 2030 — a full 30 years — BizTalk Server processed mission-critical business data for organizations across every industry on earth. Healthcare claims. EDI purchase orders. Financial transactions. Supply chain events. It ran in the background, quietly and relentlessly, with a reliability that most modern platforms can only aspire to.
When a message entered BizTalk's MessageBox, it stayed there. It was acknowledged, persisted, processed, and delivered — or it tried again until it was. That durability wasn't accidental. It was engineered with obsessive care by a team that understood what “mission-critical” truly meant.
Solid. Dependable. Unbreakable.
BizTalk earned something that very few software platforms ever earn: trust. IT teams trusted it with their most sensitive data flows. Finance departments trusted it with their books. Hospitals trusted it with patient records. Retailers trusted it with billions in transactions. Governments trusted it with national infrastructure.
That trust was not given freely — it was built release by release, cumulative update by cumulative update, over two decades of real-world battle-testing. BizTalk did not just survive — it held the line while the world around it changed beyond recognition.
Engineering That Stood the Test of Time
Eleven major releases. Hundreds of cumulative updates. Adapters for technologies that didn't exist when BizTalk was born. The platform stretched to cover AS2, HL7, HIPAA, SWIFT, REST, JSON, OAuth, and Azure — long after its original architecture was designed for SOAP and flat files. That kind of adaptability is a testament to the depth of its original engineering.
The pub-sub MessageBox. The correlation engine. The Business Rules Engine. The orchestration runtime. These were not just features — they were innovations that shaped how the entire industry thought about enterprise integration. Suren captured this architecture in depth in his book BizTalk: Azure Applications — a 340-page technical reference published by Walter de Gruyter that remains essential reading for integration architects.
Our Custom Solution: Built on the Same Ethos
When we build custom .NET integration solutions on Azure for our clients, we are not chasing the latest trend. We are carrying forward the engineering philosophy that made BizTalk great: durability above all, reliability by design, and zero tolerance for message loss.
We use Azure Service Bus the way BizTalk used the MessageBox — as an indestructible, transactional backbone. We use Azure Durable Functions the way BizTalk used orchestrations — for long-running, stateful workflows that survive restarts. We build with the same obsessive care for edge cases, failure modes, and data integrity that the original BizTalk team brought to Redmond in 2000. The platform changes. The ethos does not.

BizTalk End-of-Life Timeline
Microsoft officially confirmed in December 2025 that BizTalk Server 2020 is the final version. Here is every critical date your team must plan around.
SBMP Protocol Retirement
Microsoft retires the Service Bus Messaging Protocol (SBMP). Any BizTalk-to-Azure integrations using the default Service Bus adapter will break on this date. AMQP migration or platform migration required.
BizTalk 2016 Extended Support Ends
All BizTalk Server 2016 deployments lose all support — no security patches, no fixes. If you’re on 2016, your migration window is now. Running unsupported software creates severe compliance exposure.
BizTalk 2020 Mainstream Support Ends
No new feature requests, no design changes. Security patches only. Microsoft has confirmed there will be no BizTalk Server 2022 or beyond. This is the final version — ever.
Paid Extended Support Window
BizTalk 2020 enters costly paid Extended Security Updates — hotfixes for non-security issues only. This window is your final runway. Organizations that delay until here face maximum cost and disruption.
BizTalk Fully End-of-Life
All support for all BizTalk Server versions permanently ends. Any organization still running BizTalk after this date operates on completely unsupported, unpatched infrastructure — a critical security and compliance risk.
Your Migration Window Is Open
Only 6% of BizTalk organizations have migrated. Complex estates take 6–18 months. The organizations that start now get the best partners, the most methodical approach, and the lowest risk. Start today.
The Right Migration Path
for Your Organization
Not every organization has the same budget, footprint, or team. We match you to the right platform — from a zero-licensing-cost custom .NET solution for small organizations, all the way to enterprise-grade iPaaS for global operations.
Custom .NET Integration on Azure
Zero platform licensing fees. For small businesses and startups with a limited number of integrations, the most cost-effective and ownership-friendly path is a purpose-built custom integration solution using .NET — hosted on Azure App Service, Azure Functions, or Azure Container Apps. You pay only for Azure compute and storage. No per-connector fees, no annual iPaaS seat licenses, no vendor lock-in.
We architect a clean, maintainable .NET integration layer using proven patterns — message queues via Azure Service Bus, durable workflows via Azure Durable Functions, and data transformation via standard .NET libraries. The result is a solution your team owns fully, can extend freely, and runs at a fraction of the cost of licensed platforms.
- Fewer than 20–30 integration flows
- A small or lean IT/dev team
- Budget sensitivity — no room for iPaaS licenses
- Simple-to-moderate transformation requirements
- No complex multi-party EDI at scale
- Desire to fully own & control the solution
Custom .NET on Azure
We build your integration layer from scratch in .NET — clean, documented, and fully owned by your team. No black-box vendor platform. No annual renewal risk. No per-message pricing surprises. Just robust, maintainable code running on Azure's serverless infrastructure.
- Zero platform licensing fees — ever
- Reuse BizTalk XSLT maps directly in .NET
- Full source code ownership — no lock-in
- Scales from micro to millions of messages
- DevOps-native — GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines
- Runs on Azure Free / Pay-as-you-go tiers
Azure Logic Apps (Standard Tier)
If your team prefers a low-code environment over hand-coded .NET, Azure Logic Apps Standard is a reasonable alternative for small organizations — especially if you have existing BizTalk maps to reuse. Cost is still relatively low for small message volumes.
- Visual workflow designer — minimal coding
- Reuse BizTalk maps, schemas & EDI configs
- Pay-per-execution pricing for low volumes
- Good for teams without .NET developers
